Miss Heidi's Tea House is a cozy café and restaurant perched near Mt Gladstone Lookout just outside Cooma, blending a distinctly European vibe with the quiet charm of the Snowy Mountains region. This spot works well for visitors looking to pause on a road trip or locals craving a hearty meal inspired by Austrian and Central European traditions.

The atmosphere inside is warm and homely, with limited seating that encourages a relaxed, intimate dining experience. The staff, including Miss Heidi herself or her attentive team members, engage warmly with guests, often sharing the rich history behind the tea house and its longstanding presence in the community.

The menu offers a range of comfort dishes with authentic, homemade touches — think real Vienna schnitzel served alongside tangy Hungarian sauce and sauerkraut, or a bowl of robust, slow-cooked beef goulash with gnocchi. Sweet options like the apple strudel or Austrian-style pancakes with berries and maple syrup are highlights for a leisurely afternoon treat, often enjoyed with steaming loose leaf teas or spiced mulled wine in the cooler months.

Miss Heidi's feels especially suited to visitors who appreciate slower, mindful meals in a setting that carries a story. The outdoor seating area adds to the relaxed pace, where you can watch local birdlife and soak in natural surrounds after a stroll up to Mt Gladstone Lookout. It’s a spot favored by families, couples, and those traveling through the region who want more than just a quick bite — the type of place to sit back, enjoy honest food, and feel connected to local hospitality.

Because seating is limited, early arrival during midday hours is advisable, especially on weekends or during peak tourist seasons. The combination of authentic flavors, friendly faces, and a peaceful mountain backdrop makes Miss Heidi’s Tea House a satisfying stop, reflecting the slower rhythm of mountain country life near Cooma.

The best restaurant we had in our 7 days road trip. It is very warm with European style. The food is very good and Miss Heidi is very welcoming. She has shared the history of the tea house which is a touching story. We enjoy our lunch soooo much!! Will definitely visit again when we visit Cooma or Mt Kosciusko

Would definitely recommend stopping here if you go past , the goulash soup is one of the best. The apple strudel is one of the best I have tried . All the food is homemade on site . The staff are very friendly especially the mum , the kids said she was lovely . 10/10 would recommend, and please get there early because it's limited seating but wow is it worth it .

Aug 2025: STILL delicious! Heidi and the team are still serving up the same delicious recipes do yourself a favor and stop in to try their signature Austrian pancakes! 2024: still delicious and the OG owners are still here. They've been in business for 30+ years and ready to retire (sadly for me). 9 min drive from Cooma, the kransky and Austrian sausages were great, and of course the highlight is still the Austrian pancake! Come support them before the delicious menu is gone forever 2022: Stopped by for lunch on the way home from Thredbo (just over 1 hour drive away). The homemade soup with bread was delicious and the pancake was amazing. It tastes like a mix between crepe and pancake, and a bit crunchy on the outside. The berry compote was full of flavour and not totally mushy. Lovely quirky dining area as well with a nice fireplace. Will be back (hopefully they find new owners that can make the Austrian pancakes as well as they do)

A mainstay of Cooma, which never ceases to impress! Authentic cuisine cooked with love. I don’t know what magic gets worked on those pancakes, but they’re phenomenal. We sat outside and and enjoyed watching the birds bathing and listening to the sounds of nature. Highly recommend stopping in on your way through!

Best Strudel in NSW I was greeted with a warm smile by Chef Dot and shown to my table. She told me all about the history of the tea house including photographs from a page or two in the coffee table book. I had read the rave reviews about the strudel so ordered it and I was not let down. It was tasty, chock-full of apple and served with ice cream and cream. It was also a decent serving size. Every wall in interior of the tea house was decorated with nick-knacks and paintings.which helpedtransport you to Austria. The property is showing its age and it is in need of a spruce up but the friendly service and tasty strudel make up for it.
